Inform your supplier of a need for a “less packaging” policy. Organic products are available, and fair trade agreement policies are in place in many locations. Make sure to use electronic purchasing equipment, and that furniture quality is high and only uses natural materials.
What are suppliers doing to reduce packaging waste?
Determine the “right-sized” box for any given item based on dimension and weight.
By so doing, a dramatic reduction in the number of packages shipped in oversized boxes will be achieved, thus significantly reducing waste.
Packages should be:
- Recyclable
- Without excess packaging materials
- Without hard plastic clamshell casings
- Without plastic bindings or wire ties
- Opened without the use of a box cutter or knife.
Ideally products should be shipped in their own boxes without an additional shipping box.
