Eastern Europe is a region with many different cultures, ethnicities and languages.
The religious division between Western and Eastern Europe dominated this region for centuries, the Western as Roman Catholic and the Eastern as Orthodox.
The countries broadly classified as being a part of Eastern Europe also have another thing in common: they were all behind the Iron Curtain before its fall. This political boundary fostered development, especially in the 20th century, very different from that of Western Europe.
In the east, bordering the Baltic Sea we can find Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In the West, bordering the Black Sea, the Ukraine, Moldova, Romania. In the south, bordering the Adriatic Sea, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania. Centrally, as an enclave, surrounded by other countries are the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia. And Russia to the North.
