Northern Spain comprises of a number of different regions. From east to west, there are marvels to be visited and experienced. From the gorgeous architecture of Barcelona, to the luscious vineyards of the Rioja region, the north of Spain is both beautiful and majestic, and well worth a visit.

In terms of contemporary architecture, the incredible museum in Bilbao and the Hotel Marqués de Riscal are true Frank Ghery masterpieces that need to be seen to be believed, and terms of classical buildings, there is plenty to feast your eyes on through the marvels of places such as Santiago de Compostella.

But be sure not to stop there. Forget the Spanish stereotypes of bullfighting, flamenco dancers, and sunwashed beaches - with its Celtic heritage, bagpipe players, and often rainy weather, Green Spain, or España Verde, is more akin to Scotland than the rest of the country. Favourable climate helps keeping emerald hillsides always lush, and you’ll have little reason to wonder why this part of the country is depicted with the name of a colour.
