The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) is a public institute, within the scope of the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment. Our mission is to propose, develop and monitor, on an integrated and participated manner, the public policies for the environment and sustainable development, in close cooperation with other sectoral policies and public and private entities.

Areas of intervention include air, water, waste, climate changes, chemicals, noise polution, protection of ozone layer, genetically modified organisms, sustainable development, citizen participation, environmental assessments, environmental economics and green growth, and environmental risks.

Almargem is a non-profit association founded in Loulé, Portugal on June 1988. The main purposes of Almargem are the study and sharing of the most significant historical, cultural, and natural values of the Algarve, the safeguard of these same values and the promotion of activities pursuing nature respectful local development. Almargem is an environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) of regional scope, being registered in the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente (APA)

Quercus - Associação Nacional de Conservação da Natureza (National Association for Nature Conservation) is a Portuguese environmental organisation founded in 1985. The name Quercus is used because the Oak (Quercus in Latin) is one of the species that is characteristic in this country and that nowadays is increasingly rare. It's headquarters are in the Monsanto Forest Park, in Lisbon.

On their website, Quercus declares itself to be a non-profit national environment organisation, independent from political parties.
